Governing Body

Hello Everyone,

I am delighted to be able to introduce ourselves to those of you who do not already know who 'us' is.  My name is Lin and I am Conrad together we are the Co-Chairs of Axminster Primary’s Governing Board.  I (Lin) have been the Chair of Governors since shortly after the school joined the MAT and became the school we have today.  We are both very proud to hold this position because it enables us to be involved with all the wonderful work being done in school by the staff and pupils.

In addition to attending meetings of the board, which enable governors to have a strategic oversight of the work of the school to ensure that the school is functioning in the best way possible for pupils to achieve their potential, we make regular visits to the school and see the pupils working and at play.  We also try to attend as many of the special occasions as we can; these include concerts and fayres held throughout the year.  Our latest visits were to observe the progress in the curriculum development that has occured over the last six months. Good attendance at the school is vital for children to learn and develop and it is something we are very interested in; also seeing the children having a range of subjects that they can access is vital for well rounded children.

We look forward to continuing to keep you informed of the governors activities  and we are always available for you to come and chat with us.

Many thanks

Lin and Conrad.

What do Governors do?

The governing board is responsible for the strategic management of the school. The governing board decides what they want the school to achieve, they do this by agreeing a framework with targets, and agreeing policies, in consultation with the head teacher. The governing board then monitors and evaluates the implementation and effectiveness of the framework and policies.  One of the most important aspects of the work of the governing board is to support the staff, parents and pupils, this is achieved by regular contact and visits to the school.
